New Fiddlehead Coffee Co. café to become satellite taproom for FINNEGANS Brew Co.

Fiddlehead Coffee Co. (reopening their café in January in the Flats on Fourth building across the street from the government center and farmer’s market) will feature an exclusive line of FINNEGANS’ small batch brews as their official satellite taproom while also partnering with the brewery in their nonprofit hunger relief efforts. In March 2018, Minneapolis-based, women-owned social enterprise brewery FINNEGANS, opened a new state-of-the-art craft brewery and with it, an expanded line of hyper-local craft beers.  Fiddlehead will be the only other location outside the FINNEGANS taproom to serve their exclusive small batch brews.

All FINNEGANS profits go to local hunger relief efforts and supporting local agriculture to provide fresh produce to food shelves.  “Their philanthropic mission could not be more in line with what we’re committed to fostering here in Rochester”, says Fiddlehead owner Sarah Phelan, “FINNEGANS’ craft beers make it a perfect fit but their culture, values and leadership in the industry, make it a home run.”

“Rochester is quickly becoming a destination for craft beer enthusiasts,” adds owner Patrick Phelan, “so the opportunity to become a satellite taproom with a variety of amazingly delicious craft beers found nowhere outside FINNEGANS’ new brewery – while also accomplishing our community stewardship commitments with each beer sold – was just too good to be true. Fiddlehead’s motto is ‘Good Find. Find Good.’ after all.”

FINNEGANS Head Brewer Ryan Mihm comments, “We’re excited to work with Fiddlehead and their team. Our alignment is rooted in impacting the community for the better and in innovating to make well-crafted coffee, food and beer a philanthropic experience.  We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase our unique small-batch beers and barrel aging series through Fiddlehead’s top-notch team, to the dynamically growing Rochester community.”

Fiddlehead will have a frequently rotating selection of over a dozen FINNEGANS’ brews, featuring locally sourced amendments like rhubarb, aronia berries, wild plum, and local honey.  “When we realized their new beers had the same ingredients as our beverage program,” says Patrick, “with the same hyper local philosophy and commitment to solving issues like food insecurity and agricultural sustainability, we knew that together we could make a huge impact.”

With the satellite taproom model comes exclusive releases, events and tastings here in Rochester.  To kick it off at their January 2019 opening, Fiddlehead will feature an exclusive release of Caorthannacht, a small batch Russian imperial stout.   They’ll also feature small plate pairings with beer flights in the evenings and a daily happy hour. In addition to bringing FINNEGANS to Rochester, Fiddlehead coffee beans will be featured in FINNEGANS’ brews throughout the Midwest as soon as they are ready to serve.

The two companies will also be tag-teaming hunger relief efforts in the coming months.  FINNEGANS will be joining Fiddlehead and Cameo Restaurant in spearheading the brand new Meals on Wheels annual Gala on March 2.  “We want local restaurants to be the torch-bearers for what we hope to be a city-wide commitment to eliminating hunger in our community,” say the Phelans. “We think by working hand-in-hand with farmers, chefs, non-profits, and other local leaders, we can not only make a big impact in the lives of our neighbors, but moreover, we can provide a model of compassionate capitalism that can be replicated across America. When Minnesota can generate almost a billion dollars a day in the food and beverage industry, no one in our state should experience hunger.”

Turning beer into food. Founded in 2000 in Minneapolis, FINNEGANS is a self-sustaining and inspirational social business. Through sales of its ever-expanding roster of beers, FINNEGANS has created an innovative business model driving the company to create community wealth through the donation of all of its profits to the FINNEGANS Community Fund (501c3). The Fund supports hunger alleviation programs in every market where FINNEGANS is sold, which includes MN, WI, ND, SD and IA. Now, is there a better reason to raise a pint of FINNEGANS?
